Wheelskins Genuine Leather Steering Wheel Cover Installation and Care Instructions
Follow these instructions carefully to ensure a proper, tight fit. Wheelskins Genuine Leather Steering Wheel Covers are designed to fit tightly. The lacing holes are reinforced to resist tearing, so you can pull very tightly on the cord while lacing. You may want to wear a glove or place tape or a band-aid on your finger for protection during installation.
- Stretch and position: Stretch and properly position the steering wheel cover on the steering wheel with the sewn seam at the bottom of the wheel.
- Prepare the lacing: Unwind the entire spool of lacing cord, stretch it to remove any knots or curls, and thread the lacing needle.
- Begin lacing: Start at any point, not at the sewn seam or a spoke. Insert the needle between the edges of the cover and out through a front hole. Leave about 6 inches of lacing to tie at the finish. Insert the needle through the rear hole behind the starting front hole and diagonally through to the next front hole. Pull each stitch tight to lock edges together. Tighten one stitch at a time.
- Spokes: Lacing holes are matched on each side. Use every hole. If spokes are wider than 2 inches, skip rear holes or use “dummy” stitches in the front holes. For every front “dummy” stitch, skip a rear hole. Resume normal stitching past the spoke.
- Tie: After completing lacing, insert the needle through the last rear hole and up between the cover edges. Tie a tight double knot, clip excess cord, and tuck the knot between the cover edges.
Care Instructions: Remove soil buildup with mild hand soap and a soft sponge or paper towel. Avoid strong all-purpose cleaners or protectants, which may remove the leather’s special coatings. Perfumes, colognes, and aftershave lotions containing alcohol may harm the finish. Ensure your hands are clean before driving.
